Island Engineering was founded in 1999 by Mechanical Engineer Bill McFann, who was soon joined by his former 'Special Projects' team members- Electronics Engineer Tim Pannone and Mechanical Engineer Rick Loheed. All 3 have extensive world wide experience in AMV's supported by a strong hands on capability in creating, producing, installing and testing motion control systems for all types of craft- beginning with a particularly large experience base in surface effect ships.

Others joined us at various times to support larger scale projects, and the Island Group was born.
Services
Island Engineering provides consulting Engineering services, prototyping, and testing for AMV's.
Due to the nature of our highly scalable controller, an extensive understanding of the physics including vessel dynamics, hydrodynamics, and aerodynamics must be considered to optimize performance.
From 3D CAD modeling and FEA through a wealth of analysis tools for CFD, IEI personell are equipped to help you optimize and control your next project!
Island Engineering Products begin with our flagship, the Spectrum FOTM - consisting of a main controller connected to digital nodes via Fiber Optic Ethernet.
Alternately choose the SpectrumTM with Cat-5 cable.
Because the nodes are very powerful embedded computers communicating digitally with our customizable object oriented main controller software, nearly any scale system becomes possible.
The system is tailorable to control nearly any effector fitted to the vessel for motion control.
If an off the shelf solution is best, IEI works with several other suppliers.
