Green Engineering's mission is to satisfy the needs of local governments that do not have in-house engineering capabilities and to supplement engineering departments that require specialized skills. The mission today remains virtually unchanged. However, the company's client base has expanded over the last half century to include multi-national corporations, universities and colleges, public schools, branches of the armed forces, federal agencies, private developers, and state government.
Founded at the end of World War II by F. Talmadge Green, a civil engineer and former city manager, Green and Phelps, Inc. began business primarily as a local surveying company in Wilson, North Carolina. In the early 1950's, Talmadge Green became sole owner and the company was changed to F. T. Green & Associates and began providing engineering services to area clients, as well.
In 1964, Talmadge's nephew, E. Leo Green, Jr., joined the company as a young civil engineering graduate of North Carolina State University.

Services
Green Engineering believes that for a project to be successful it has to be thoughtfully planned.
We work closely with our clients to identify their individual needs, carefully defining a project scope and the milestones that must be met for the "need" to be transformed into a successful and operational project.
Projects are planned to address the immediate need with provisions being made within the projects planning and design parameters to accommodate future growth in the project's service area.

Green Engineering understands the importance of water in the lives of our clients and the communities they serve.
This understanding provides us with the foundation required to plan, design and construct water systems that serve our clients immediate and long term needs.
Using state of the art modeling software (WaterCad) we are able to simulate demands on the existing system, project future demands both inside and outside the service area and make recommendations on system upgrades that will be required for the successful growth of any water system.

Green Engineering prides itself on working with private, commercial and industrial developers in their efforts to create successful developments throughout eastern and piedmont North Carolina.
We work closely with the developer to create a project scope that will meet their individual immediate and long term needs.
Once identified, these needs are the foundation for the development of a preliminary plan that will define the project in its entirety.
We are the developer's representative during the regulatory review process, attending all Technical Review, Planning Board and City/Town Council meetings.

Green Engineering began as a land surveying company in the late 1940's and continues to this day to provide in-house surveying services to our municipal and private sector clients.
Utilizing state of the art land surveying equipment such as Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and robotic total stations, Green Engineering is able to produce surveys that are more accurate than those produced by conventional surveying methods in less time.
Also, by providing these services in-house during the design and construction phases of a project, we are able to dictate project schedule without relying on a third party.
