Childs Engineering provides services focused on projects that are in, on, or near the water. We have built our reputation on providing personal services that result in creative, practical, and efficient solutions to our clients' engineering problems on the waterfront. Our mission is to provide the highest level of expertise in waterfront engineering to our clients insuring that efficient construction, overall economy, and the use of current technical advances will bring projects in on time and under budget.
As recommended my the Commonwealth of Massachusetts the majority of our team are working remotely. All voicemail messages are forwarded and everyone is still responding to email as normal. We are still conducting regular fieldwork and are taking all of the necessary precautions to keep everyone safe. We still aim to operate at the highest levels and provide an exceptional level of service as we always strive to do.

Services
Since our founding in 1970 by Kenny Childs we have been committed to providing engineering services in the field of waterfront and coastal structures.
This commitment has created a firm that has extensive expertise and experience in structural engineering along the waterfront.
Childs Engineering has been at the forefront of underwater inspection and design by putting engineers underwater to perform high quality inspections since the beginning.
Divers untrained in structural analysis can give erroneous assessments of underwater conditions.

Childs Engineering has the in-house staff and equipment to inspect and analyze structures above water, in the tidal zone, and underwater.
Our experienced engineering staff uses destructive and non-destructive techniques to assess structural deficiencies, and develop repair strategies.
Since the founding of the company in 1970, Childs Engineering has been fielding qualified engineer/divers throughout the USA and Worldwide.
Our in-house staff of Professional Engineers are trained commercial divers and members of the Association of Diving Contractors International (ADCI).

Some destructive inspection techniques include timber and concrete coring to determine the current internal condition of a structural element.
This can often be used in a life cycle analysis to focus on repair types that will achieve the owners' objectives.

By using experienced engineer divers to conduct an inspection we are able to better understand the structural issues found during an inspection and determine what has been caused by the overloading of a structure versus the normal degradation during its life.

At Childs Engineering, along with underwater and topside inspections our engineers are also experienced in the design of repairs and design of new structures.
The same engineers that perform the infield inspections carry that knowledge through to the design phase of every project thereby maintaining continuity and knowledge throughout to the completion of each project.
Since 1970, we have designed pretty much any type of structure that is either in, on, or by the water including piers, wharfs, seawalls, and marinas.
