Services
SubTerra's professional staff and consultants are seasoned professionals with international experience in their areas of expertise.
SubTerra's network of independent consultants allows us to increase our staff as workload dictates.
Personnel assignments aren't changed without concurrence of the client, ensuring the same team will see the project through from beginning to end.
SubTerra, Inc. is an engineering company specializing in mining, civil, geo-technical and environmental engineering.
Our experienced engineers, geologists and team of specialist associates allow us to offer a broad range of engineering services for each stage in the investigation, design and construction phases of mine and civil projects.
SubTerra, Inc., and its team of associates offer a broad range of engineering services at each stage in the investigation, design, and construction of tunneling and underground excavation projects for civil construction and mining applications.
Design and Implementation of Site Investigation Programs, for new tunnels, focused on project specific geotechnical issues and design information needs, including site reconnaissance & mapping, layout and supervision of exploration plans, identification of laboratory and in-situ testing needs, instrumentation setup and monitoring.
SubTerra, Inc. has worked on numerous tunnel, microtunnel, horizontal directional drilling and underground projects throughout the United States and Canada, including, most recently, the Metro Goldline East project in Los Angeles (twin 20-ft diameter subway tunnels); the Lincoln Automobile and Pedestrian Tunnel (35-ft wide by 14.5-ft high) in Bellevue, WA; the Panama Wastewater Tunnels (11 to 13-ft diameter tunnels, 40,000-ft in total length); and the Brightwater Project in Seattle, WA (wastewater tunnels between 10-ft and 20-ft in diameter and 18,000-ft long).
Pipe-jacking and Microtunneling are relatively recent technology advancements in underground engineering.
As such, it is sometimes difficult to locate experienced engineering professionals in these areas.
However, SubTerra has both in-house resources and the ability to utilize its network of professionals to provide expertise in these areas.
Microtunneling, which is a special case of pipe-jacking, was first developed in Europe and Japan and was not used in the U.S. until the mid 1980s.
Microtunneling is defined in the U.S. as a remotely controlled, laser-guided pipe-jacking process that does not require personnel entry for the excavation and mucking process.
SubTerra, Inc. has performed condition surveys and repair designs for 100-year old tunnel structures and underground hydroelectric plant powerhouse openings coupling these services with our extensive experience in excavation engineering, underground ground support design, shotcrete technology, and design visualization.
Advanced survey and data processing techniques have been used to prepare 3-D digital models and still images for presentations to Owners, other Engineers and potential Repair Contractors.
