SHN Engineers & Geologists
Although the drought is over in much of California, our Mediterranean climate creates the need for stored water. SHN assists clients in permitting and designing water storage. Using horizontal directional drilling, SHN installed an underwater power cable in Gig Harbor, Washington. New wastewater collection and interceptor pipes, and a new pump station, eliminated sewage overflows into aquatic habitats.

SHN, the Redwood Community Action Agency, and the City of Arcata organized a walkability assessment. SHN is pleased to announce that two experienced engineers have joined us. They are Richard Culp, PE and Casey Christensen, PE. Richard's most recent work was with the Rural Community Assistance Corporation (RCAC), where he designed public utility infrastructure and managed construction.

He provided technical assistance to, and was the lead trainer for, water and wastewater operators. Richard also was the General Manager of a rural, coastal special purpose district for over 10 years. Casey comes to SHN from another consulting firm, where he provided structural design for private homes, K-12 campuses, and commercial developments.
Services
SHN Engineers & Geologists, Inc. is a California State and Federal small business enterprise meeting the engineering, geologic, and environmental needs of communities in Southern Oregon and Northern California.
We live where we work, giving clients extra assurance that our projects are designed and constructed to last and work well.
Our familiarity with local and regional conditions (environmental, economic, and cultural) and our relationships with resource agency staff, bring value to our clients' jobs that other consulting firms can't.
From our California offices in Eureka, Redding, Arcata, Fort Bragg, and Willits, and our Oregon offices in Coos Bay and Klamath Falls, we can quickly serve our clients in Northern California and Southern Oregon.
Our Eureka and Redding offices opened in 1979 and 1986, respectively.
We expanded north and south with our Coos Bay and Willits offices in 2001 and 2003.
Our Klamath Falls office opened in 2012, and our newest Fort Bragg office opened in 2020.
Our office locations are strategically selected so we may offer employees the advantages of rural living, but with ready access to larger cities such as Santa Rosa, Sacramento, Medford, and Eugene.
SHN has provided surveying services for over 35 years, and we are now also providing services related to use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), also known as "drones".
In a quickly evolving field, SHN surveyors, pilots, and information technology staff are creating new methods of mapping, measurement, and visualization using drones and supporting data management systems.
SHN's drone program is different because our licensed pilots are professional licensed surveyors and geologists.
We combine our expertise in mitigation monitoring, restoration planning, and large-scale earth and materials movement with drones and traditional surveying techniques.
SHN has provided environmental services for over 35 years, and we continue to find new, faster, and less expensive ways to remediate, limit, and prevent environmental impacts.
We obtain lead analyses in the field; real-time data acquisition allows immediate response, reduces cost, accelerates regulatory decisions, and can significantly shorten project duration.
We determine which naturally occurring compounds can interfere or erroneously increase laboratory analyses for suites or families of compounds, such as Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons.
I had to restrict all this writing to one sentence, this is the one I would choose: the summit of Mount Everest is marine limestone.
Creativity and ingenuity to apply new technologies such as horizontal directional drilling, high resolution trench photography, and state-of-the-art slope monitoring devices.
These "value added" characteristics can save you money by decreasing the time required for us to understand, evaluate, and solve your geologic or geotechnical problems.
Public spaces and infrastructure: hospitals and schools and universities; water and wastewater infrastructure; pipelines; local roads, highways, and bridges; dams, hydroelectric and industrial facilities; and landfills.
