We are your mechanical engineering resource for mechanical product design and implementation, especially in the Portland area. From product concept, preliminary designs, analysis, finished design, qualification, full documentation and support, we are ready to jump in and run with your team to success in the market. What do you need to make your product design more successful?

Put the experience of a licensed professional engineer to work for you. We would love to discuss how we can add to your legacy. Sometimes it is an upgrade to an existing design, the parts are too hot, or a correction of a product defect to bring costs down. Mechanical engineering design brings your product ideas to life. Why does it overheat? Is it going to break?

Will this shake itself apart? What would make this better? These and other issues need thermal, stress and vibration FEA analysis to understand where we go from here.
Services
Principal of Morelli Engineering since its inception in 2000 and based in the Portland area, Gerry Morelli, P.E. is an adaptive, self-motivated mechanical engineer with volumes of experience as a mechanical engineer since 1984 and licensed professional engineer since 1995.
Product design experience includes commercial, military and medical displays, electronic packages, and other mechanical products.
As mechanical architect, all phases of product design are represented, from concept definition, analysis, detail design, documentation, testing, sourcing and manufacturing process support.
Mechanical, Electrical, Software - the heart, soul and mind of your product design.
Morelli Engineering has been involved in many aspects of mechanical and thermal engineering product design, from component and PCB mechanical design to electronic packaging to complete systems.
Below is a sampling of these.
Electronics are unhappy at high temperatures, so we help them keep their cool.
This means finding the best fan for the job and operating at the sweet spot.
It means optimizing the heat sink, and understanding the PCB components and cooling methods.
There are multiple factors in sizing the fan and operating at its sweet spot for your system, such as system pressure drop, power dissipation, noise, and of course frame size.
It needs to be right.
The cylinder to be cooled had to be kept within a few degrees C of the ambient.
By careful analysis of both the interfaces and air flow we did a little better than promised.
An especially powerful tool is modeling the system as a thermal circuit and using SPICE simulation.
This enables many "what-if" scenarios to be evaluated quickly.
You need clear part drawings and models your suppliers can turn into great product without mistakes.
We have you covered.
Both for internal and external documentation precise assembly drawings communicate design intent and details.
Illustrations and exploded views are very helpful for assembly documentation, both for you and your customer.
Photo realistic rendering is a great visualization tool for Marketing, for Management, for investors, as well as for designers.
Production needs the tools to get the job done, and sometimes you can't buy those out of a catalog.
If the task or specifications are well defined and the path to success is fairly clear these can be fixed cost.
If there are many unknowns hourly billing is best.
At some point we could look into whether a retainer is beneficial.
Do we need a heat pipe?
Options?
We can also work bi-directionally with previous releases of SolidWorks, as well as standard formats such as STP, IGES, dxf, dwg, Parasolid, and other CAD formats.
It's worth looking at on a case by case basis.
