Artisan Engineering
Artisan Engineering is a professional structural engineering studio, providing traditional and specialty structural engineering services. We tailor our services to the unique requirements of each of our clients. Through our work with owners, architects, designers, engineers, constructors, fabricators, and product vendors, we are sensitive to all aspects of the design and construction process.

In today's fast-paced construction environment, we understand the importance of responsive, cost-effective resolutions to both common and unique structural issues. The cornerstone of Artisan Engineering's success is its unique willingness to depart from the norm and develop creative, innovative solutions to meet special challenges posed by each project.

We have over a decade of structural engineering and management experience, in commercial, institutional, industrial, residential, and specialty engineering design and construction of major projects throughout New England. Our experience includes most types of building materials including: structural steel, concrete, masonry, conventional wood framing, heavy timber construction, manufactured lumber products, stress skin panels, aluminum and light gage steel framing.
Services
Artisan Engineering provides structural engineering and building design services for new and existing buildings including: residential, commercial, institutional, industrial, and historic structures.
Through the use of the latest design software including, Building Information Modeling (BIM) via Revit Structure, Artisan Engineering also conducts structural investigations like feasibility studies on new and existing structures, consults on renovations, and designs specialty structures and new structural systems.
John P. Higgins, PE founded Artisan Engineering, PC in 2003.
As Principal Engineer and President, he has been responsible for structural engineering and management of design for many projects throughout New England.
John's ability to provide balanced experience in design and constructability with commercial, institutional, industrial, residential, and specialty engineering projects has led to many long lasting client relationships.
John received his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Vermont.
Peter J. Zelonis, PE first began working at Artisan Engineering in 2005 while working towards his Professional Engineer licensure while concentrating on timber frame design.
Today, Peter works as the project manager for Artisan Engineering.
He is responsible for the design and management of a wide variety of project types throughout the Northeast.
Peter collaborates with Artisan's staff, clients, architects, and contractors to develop successful projects and guides the projects from initial design concepts through to completed construction.
Josh started working for Artisan Engineering, PC in 2012.
Since then he has worked on a number of residential, commercial, and industrial projects in Vermont, Maine, and New Hampshire.
Josh endeavors to create cost effective designs that provide a high level of performance while meeting the client's specifications.
Josh received his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Vermont.
During the summer he worked as an assistant carpenter to a master carpenter and cabinetmaker, an experience that gave him a long lasting interest in residential design and construction.
Ross joined Artisan Engineering in 2014.
He received his Bachelors of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Vermont in 2012 where he was inducted into Chi Epsilon, Civil Engineering Honor Society.
He went on to complete his Masters of Science degree in Civil Engineering with a focus in Structures from Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana.
Ross wrote his masters professional research paper on the performance and application of buckling restrained braced frames; a lateral structural component gaining popularity in seismic design.
