Services
GeoPacific Engineering, Inc. (GeoPacific) is a locally owned consulting firm specializing in geotechnical engineering, environmental, and field quality control services for construction.
GeoPacific provides geotechnical services to industrial, commercial, residential and municipal clients throughout Oregon and Washington from our office located in Tigard, Oregon, just a few miles south of the Portland City limits.
The ownership transition was practically seamless, as GeoPacific continued to provide services on all ongoing geotechnical projects with no changes in personnel.
Jim has over thirty-five years of experience in the field of geotechnical engineering and materials testing oversight, practicing locally since 1990.
Jim has also practiced for six years in southern California, working on such projects as the Directors Guild of America building, the 14 story Hilton Waterfront Beach Resort, the San Bernardino Community Hospital, and a chip manufacturing facility for Western Digital.
Jim has expertise in a wide range of small to large sized residential, commercial, and industrial developments.
The mixed-use building at SE 50th and Division has four stories above grade and one basement level below grade.
Braced shoring was needed in order to support the adjacent buildings during excavation for the basement level of the new building.
We worked closely with the owner, shoring contractor and the design team to develop a shoring design which would provide the necessary support while not interfering with the proposed foundation.
Unexpected issues often arise during construction, especially on urban sites like this one.
The Belz Place Subdivision project consisted of developing 34 acres of an existing agricultural field to create over 100 residential building lots in Camas, Washington.
Geotechnical design and evaluation for the planning stages of the project consisted of subsurface exploration, seismic analysis, design of retaining walls, and design of residential roadways.
Site grading and earthwork was conducted on the order of 18 feet deep, and several tall MSE retaining walls were constructed.
During construction GeoPacific provided geotechnical construction monitoring services consisting of site stripping evaluations, subgrade preparation, soils laboratory testing, nuclear density testing and quality control of engineered fill placement, nuclear density testing of underground utility trench backfill and roadway pavement sections, and provided documentation to the project design team and local municipality in a timely fashion.
