The "Z" in Zip-Bit represents the Z dimension, the key third dimension which takes product engineering to the next level. Today roughly 75% of the worlds engineers work in only two axis / dimensions, simulating 3D isometrically. Zip-Bit delivers outstanding engineering service in all three dimensions - ( X, Y and Z - true 3D ), to help technology companies create new structures and shapes that were not thought possible with traditional mass manufacturing processes.

Zip-Bit, Inc. provides Rapid Prototyping Services using 3D Scanning, 3D Modeling and 3D Printing. Located in Silicon Valley, Zip-Bit, Inc. has over 10 years experience in 3D Scanning, 3D Modeling and 3D Printing technologies for start-ups to multinationals and our client base spans across various sectors from mobile, medical devices to automotive.

Localized, mass customization and on-demand manufacturing is upon us! Zip-Bit specializes in tailor made engineering services in 3D scanning, 3D Modeling and 3D Printing for technology start-ups to multinationals and our client base spans across all sectors from consumer, mobile, medical devices to automotive, sciences and the arts.

John was one of the 1st individuals in Silicon Valley to purchase and utilize the Stratasys Dimension SST1200 3D printer.
An early adopter of 3D Scanning and 3D Printing technologies, John has been pushing the boundaries of these technologies in serving his clients for over 10 years, solving complex problems for hundreds of technology companies through reverse engineering, 3D Scanning, 3D modeling and 3D printing.
John has over 30 years in hardware and software engineering as well as material science, spanning from labs automation / robotics, laser technology to 3D holographic videos.
Zip-Bit uses custom designed & built goniometer for 3D scanning, enabling the objects to be scanned in a full hemispherical (180° x 360°) multiple facets.
Zip-Bit uses state-of-the-art 3D scanning technology.
Using Euclidean geometry (trigonometric triangulation) methods, Zip-Bit's in-house 3D scanners deliver incredibly fast scans for any object, accurate to 30m (standard deviation: 35m) 0.0012 inches (standard deviation: 0.0014 inches).
Using Geomagic's Design X (formally INUS RapidForm XOR3 64bit) application software, the point cloud and the poly-mesh datum is repaired, converted into NURBS surface models which can be measured, manipulated and turned into parametric models with full feature trees for examination of individual features.
A point cloud or polygonal mesh model of the object being scanned is acquired from our one of our 3D Scanners.
Holes or overlaps in the data are repaired using Geomagic Design X software creating a water tight mesh.
This mesh is then turned into an NURBS surface or solid feature model using Geomagic Design X's powerful built-in object and feature recognition intelligence and full-featured tool set.
SolidWorks is then used to save the 3D Model out in one of the following CAD file formats.
If a 2D picture is worth a thousand words, then a 3D printed object is worth a million words.
3D printing Is an enabling technology turning what is in "the minds eye" into real world objects you can hold, feel and use.
Using state-of-the-art technology and processes Zip-Bit offers one-of-a-kind 3D Printing Service with objects 3D printed in a variety of colors and sizes.
Zip-Bit prides itself in advising clients on the best technologies and materials to apply to make your 3D printing project a success.
For its 3D desktop scanner, NextEngine offers two software packages to edit/modify the acquired 3D Scan datum, it's own ScanStudio PRO and RapidWorks software (this is a full blown version of INUS Rapidform XOR3 bundled to work only with the NextEngine).
While ScanStudio PRO can export splines and NURBS representations of your model, RapidWorks generated CAD models include editable sketches and a full feature tree.
At all steps in the process, the 3D scan datum acts as a guide, and the software snaps to the 3D scan datum and automatically recognizes features of interest.
