Surface Engineering is a trusted designer and manufacturer of high precision spindles, parts, and assemblies, specializing in turning and grinding. Located in an 18,000 square foot building in Sunnyvale, California, the heart of Silicon Valley, the facility was custom built for the purpose of creating extremely high precision components. We currently manufacture on a production basis several in-house aided designs of air bearing, ball bearing, and stage assemblies for the wafer and disc processing industries.

We have eight grinders capable of grinding ODs (outside diameters), two with the ability to grind ODs and IDs (internal diameters) concurrently.
All machines have in-process gauging.
This includes CNC-controlled Studer machines with the capability of grinding multiple diameters in one chucking, non-round and thread grinding capabilities as well as IDs.
A custom-made Blohm Planomat 412 is newly available to grind a field of 1200mm by 350mm to a flatness of 1 micron.
Resolution of 0.1 micron is possible.

Typical speeds range from 0 to 20,000 RPM.
We can provide amplifier controls interfaces to the integral motor and encoder if required, or interface with your controls.
