Learn about the evolution of Shaft Area Profile Evaluator (SHAPE), along with office updates and upcoming events in newsletter no. GRL Engineers offer deep foundation testing and analysis services across the U.S. and offshore. Read about our specialized services in our Statement of Qualifications. The Deep Foundations Institute (DFI) Educational Trust, the charitable arm of DFI, announces the establishment of a new scholarship.
GRL is now offering Gamma Gamma Logging (GGL), a non-destructive test method used to assess the concrete integrity of drilled shafts. Federal Highway Administration reference documents for highway projects involving driven pile foundations. GRL Engineers services range from small specialized testing jobs (such as evaluating unknown foundations) to large-scale projects requiring the monitoring and analysis of hundreds of test piles nationwide.

Services
In 1964, visionary researchers embarked on the project that pioneered dynamic pile testing by the Case Method (named after the Case Institute of Technology, now known as Case Western Reserve University, in Cleveland, OH).
In 1976, the research team incorporated GRL to provide consulting services utilizing the Pile Driving Analyzer (PDA) system for deep foundation quality control.
Since its incorporation, GRL has continued to expand its capabilities in this field, most notably in the areas of wave equation technology, hammer performance evaluation and non-destructive testing methods.

GRL Engineers offer a wide range of deep foundation testing and consulting services, nationwide.
Most GRL Engineers have achieved Advanced Level or higher on both the PDCA/PDI Dynamic Measurement and Analysis Proficiency Test.
Assessments of structural and geotechnical pile bearing capacity, measurement of soil resistance, driving stresses and hammer performance.
Thermal integrity profiling, crosshole sonic logging, gamma gamma logging, and low strain dynamic testing services.
High capacity static load cell test method for drilled shafts, bored piles, barrettes, and ACIP/CFA piles to determine top load movement.

GRL Engineers employs over 50 personnel and is led by nationally recognized and veteran foundation tester, Patrick Hannigan, P.E.
Prior to Hannigan, Frank Rausche, one of the founders and a current principal senior consultant, helped GRL grow into the leading provider of deep foundation testing, analysis and consulting services.
GRL has 11 offices throughout the United States.
GRL's leadership team is committed to providing superior testing and consulting services.
Camilo has been a GRL Branch Manager and Project Engineer since 2003, and has worked for GRL since 2000.

Dynamic Load Testing is a fast, reliable and cost effective method of evaluating foundation bearing capacity.
GRL can perform Dynamic Load Testing on driven piles, drilled shafts, auger-cast piles, micropiles, helical piles, and other cast in place foundations.
It is often possible to conduct several dynamic load tests in a single day.
In addition to bearing capacity, Dynamic Load Testing provides information on resistance distribution (shaft resistance and end bearing) and evaluates the shape and integrity of the foundation element.

During pre-construction test programs, Pile Driving Monitoring helps formulate driving criteria.
During the installation of production piles, it helps check that driving happens in accordance with the established criterion and gives information on soil resistance at the time of monitoring and on driving system performance.
Dynamic Monitoring with a Pile Driving Analyzer (PDA) dynamic testing system also calculates driving stresses, helping reduce the risk of pile damage.
If stresses indicate a high potential for pile damage, driving can be stopped and alternative installation procedures evaluated.
