Widmer Engineering Inc. was founded in 1974 by Joseph H. Widmer. Prior to this Mr. Widmer was the director of computer systems for a large international engineering firm. What started out as a one man's dream in 1974 has grown to a firm with 3 locations, 75 employees and generating over $5.5 million in fees per year for professional services. The organization is now a recognized contender for all engineering projects throughout western Pennsylvania.

Contracts secured to date have been as small as $100 and as large as in excess of $1,000,000 over thirty months. Diversification has been a major strength of the firm. Municipal engineering, those services provided to municipalities and municipal authorities, has been the backbone of the organization. When other divisions of our organization are low in work the municipal division has always provided a steady backlog of work.

Transportation engineering for the Department of Transportation has also greatly influenced our organization and provided a steady flow of work.
Services
Boroughs, townships, and cities share many things in common, the foremost is providing service to their constituents.
Their needs include engineering design and construction services for drainage, roadways, sidewalks, utility relocations, and permitting to name a few.
The local and traveling public also demand services with minimal interruptions due toconstruction detours.
Widmer Engineering Inc. has mapped and located thousands of feet of sewer line and has prepared comprehensive base mapping for our municipal clients.
Whether with the use of aerial photogrammetry or through conventional surveying techniques, our staff can provide you with the mapping to meet the DEP requirements.
We also have in-house global positioning equipment to place all data on the Pennsylvania State Plane Coordinate System or have it tied to a local coordinate system.
We have special locating equipment to trace the underground positions of our internal sewer inspection camera or through the use of low voltage electricity to trace underground utilities and place them on the base mapping.
An Authority, Township, or Borough provides uninterrupted sanitary service to its customers.
This service includes acceptance, conveyance, and treatment of domestic (and sometimes industrial) sewage.
This service must provide a treatment level, that does not affect the downstream environment, at a reasonable cost.
Rehabilitation and upgrades to existing sewage treatment plants andconveyance systems are a means to that end.
Widmer Engineering Inc. (WEI) has the experienced staff with proven records of accomplishment with many Pennsylvania Communities.
Widmer has televised over 100,000 lineal feet of sewer lines over the past few years for municipal clients on an on-call or contract basis.
Our personnel are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to assist municipalities with their internal inspection needs.
The equipment is manufactured by Aries and comes with a rotating head for inspection of lateral connections.
The video recorder is color and the length of cable is 1,200 feet.
We also have additional lighting for the large diameter sewers.
An Authority provides uninterrupted potable water service to its customers.
This service service includes maintenance and replacement of existing water lines, treatment plant upgrades, and an emergency action plan to overcome a waterline break or contamination at the source.
Existing systems evaluation and field review will result in preparation of a priority project listing.
Coordination and scheduling of design and construction begins with the Authority board members and the local regulatory agency.
