I've wanted to do this for (30) years - walk over the Brooklyn Bridge. Now that I am really here, it is hard to put my feelings into words. The first impression I got was "The Ages Past." You know, the Temple of Karnack. I was feeling like Indiana Jones out exploring the world. There were the cables, the feel of the massive stonework, and the steel framing with laced columns and all fashioned for a purpose by one of the Icons of my own profession, German immigrant, John Augustus Roebling.

I walked the 1.3 miles over the Bridge with my Mother who is in her late 70's and has an arthritic foot. I asked Mother if she thought she could make it. I received a cold stare and pursed lips and with steely German determination was told, "I'm walking over this bridge with my son!" I should be able to improve my ADMIN efficiency by 3 times. That means, more time for production work, less paper pushing, and better service for my Clients.

And, more time for fly fishing! Staaleson Engineering, P.C. is a Structural Engineering Firm that provides structural designs with personal service to clients in the private and public sector in the Seattle/Tacoma Area.
Services
Our Chief Engineer, Darrell Staaleson, P.E., has 20 years of experience in design and engineering using various materials and structural systems and in working with Clients to help them achieve their Building objectives.
We've actively pursued and successfully completed numerous structural designs, seismic strengthening, and investigations for residences, commercial buildings, public facilities, and foundations.
We design the structural framing and connections for gravity systems and lateral force resisting systems to achieve the benefits of architectural concept while minimizing construction cost.
Commercial - Office Buildings, Commercial Buildings, Warehouses, Mill buildings, Cold-Storage Buildings using Masonry Walls with timber framing or steel joists with pan deck for roofs and floors.
Residential - Custom Residences using Wood platform and heavy timber framing with wood shear walls designed using either the panel or perforated method.
We can use Box Beams to create large open spans with a flush ceiling.
Public Facilities - Facilities using Masonry Walls with timber framing, steel joists with pan deck, or CIP concrete slabs for roofs and floors.
Renovations Projects, Additions and Repairs - After a structural condition assessment, we design the changes in the structural framing and lateral force resisting systems to achieve the benefits of architectural concept while minimizing construction cost.
Seismic Strengthening - Following a comprehensive Engineering Study to evaluate susceptibility of structural systems to potential damage from seismic shaking we can design strengthening with fluid viscous dampers to reduce the effective seismic force on older buildings.
We have experience with several types of investigations, working with real estate agents, Insurance Companies, and developers, and serving as an expert witness.
Residential Pre-purchase Inspections - A preliminary visual examination made at the request of Buyer or Seller or the recommendation of the home inspector to determine if the apparent structural damage observed is significant and what an estimate of repair costs are.
Structural Condition Assessment - A visual examination made to assess the condition of the structure: help the Owner plan a Renovation, Addition, or Repair; evaluate Construction Defects; investigation of a Structural Failure, such as a roof collapse from excess snow load or tree impact.
Staaleson Engineering, P.C. is a small Civil Engineering Firm that provides structural building designs, engineering consulting, and forensic investigations to clients in the private and public sector.
