L I Science & Engineering Fair
Website
LI Science and Engineering Fair, Inc., a 501c3 corporation, promotes three science research fairs that are extremely successful and professional events. Since 2005, the number of schools participating in the Charles Duggan LISEF Fair for high school students, named for our founder, increased from 50 to 70 schools. Charles' dream was to reach 100 schools and we hope to reach that goal.

The JV Fair, organized in 2011, grew out of a proposal fair that in 2010 had 27 projects; by its second year, the JV Fair's numbers jumped to 87 projects. The Middle School Fair is undergoing reorganization after gaining a new national sponsor; we hope that the Broadcom-MASTERS Middle School Competition will spur a resurgence in our middle school fair.

Each year LISEF, Inc. incurs two major expenses, the cost of sponsoring 3 fairs over 2 days and sponsoring up to 20 LISEF projects to the International Science & Engineering Fair each May. The Intel ISEF brings together over 1,500 students from 70 nations to compete for scholarships, tuition grants, internships, scientific field trips and the grand prize: a $75,000 college scholarship.

After much consideration, the LISEF Board of Trustees has decided to NOT run the 2022 LISEF Junior Varsity Fair.
We believe this is the best decision for the health and safety of our students and teachers during this unprecedented school year.
Please encourage your students to continue to discover and examine the world around them.
The LISEF Junior Varsity (JV) Fair began in 2011, and replaced the Proposal Fair.
Since competition on Long Island is very intense, and the number of projects that we can accommodate at the LISEF Fair is limited, the JV Fair was created to provide an additional opportunity for students to compete.
After much consideration, the LISEF Board of Trustees has decided to host the 2022 Broadcom MASTERS Middle School Fair as an IN-PERSON EVENT, but will decrease the project limit to 5 projects per school.
We believe this is the best decision for the health and safety of our students and teachers during this unprecedented school year.
The Society for Science and the Public (SSP) has partnered with Broadcom to launch the Broadcom MASTERS National Middle School Science and Engineering Competition.
This program is open to students in grades 6, 7, and 8.
This is a wonderful opportunity to invest in the future of the students of Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
Students who are involved in precollege science, behavioral and mathematics research not only enrich their understanding of scientific concepts but also experience the process of scientific exploration through questioning and hands on investigation.
These students share their data and experience with experts in their field, fostering skills of cooperation and communication as they present at our regional fairs.
Judging for LISEF is a volunteer activity for qualified professionals who have a PhD or are currently pursuing a PhD or have suitable experience in a science and/or engineering field, retirees included.
Each judge that registers will be given a tentative category assignment a few days prior to the fair date; final category assignments will be determined on the day of the fair as the number of available judges in each category becomes more definitive.
The only items that a judge is asked to bring is an inquisitive mind and a lot of enthusiasm!
