Welcome to Math, Science, and Engineering Tutoring by Jeff Serving student around the globe. Realize your full potential! Much like any sport, learning how to learn takes deliberate effort and practice. MSE Specializes in empowering students by showing them how to become independent, efficient learners.

We focus on tutoring and test-prep in the areas of math, science, and engineering with a focus on a common approach to problem solving that is applicable to many areas including standardized tests such as the SAT, ACT, GRE, AP Chemistry, AP Physics, and AP Calculus. We show students how to read with a critical eye - picking out the useful information while discarding the rest.

We show students how to break down problems into smaller parts, simplifying the process and explaining every step. We take students as early as 4th grade to build a solid foundation that will help them be successful throughout their academic and professional careers. We foster good learning habits, showing each student how to study more effectively and retain more.

There are a number of ways to learn, but the trick is to learn efficiently.
Think about the material after each paragraph.
It's not a race to get through the end of the chapter; it's about learning the material really well the first time so you don't have to spend time later re-learning.
Re-work the examples.
Write the example questions on a separate sheet of paper and then close the book - no peeking.
If you can do the example by yourself, you know that you can do it, but if you can't then you can go back to look at how the example was worked.
Unless you are using radians (typically starting in precalculus or physics), leave in deg (degrees).
If you are using radians, choose Rad, hit enter, and then 2nd Mode (quit).
Until you get to imaginary and complex numbers, leave in Real.
If you are using imaginary and complex numbers (typically starting in Algebra 2 or precalculus), set to a + bi hit enter, and then 2nd Mode (quit).
You will almost always want to be in DEC mode unless you are taking a computer science or electronics class that covers other number systems, most commonly binary.
