In 1968 Tom Bistline joined the army and became a battalion leader.
Part of his duties required him to build barracks out of sand bags.
While serving in Vietnam, Tom not only learned how to make sand bags, but he learned how to utilize them in many applications in developing erosion control devices.
As a member of the San Onofre surf club, erosion control and water management have always been important to Tom Bistline.
In 1982, Tom and his wife Bonnie started a construction company to provide site services to home builders.
Part of his duties required him to build barracks out of sand bags.
