Services
The use of fire modeling has greatly evolved since its first use in the 1940's.
Today, fire modeling can help provide economic, safe, and performance-based designs for buildings.
RAN Fire Protection Engineering uses fire models to determine the impact that specific design fires and associated smoke spread would have on structures.
RAN's employees have over 25 years of experience in developing fire models and evaluating structures to address specific code or performance needs of a client.
RAN has experience with various types of fire models, including zone modeling, field modeling, and probabilistic modeling.

All system design drawings are developed using computer aided design software and follow our in-house drawing standards.
The fire protection component symbols that we use are consistent with national standards.
We utilize both AutoCAD and Revit.
We also provide hydraulic calculations to ensure that each fire protection system has an adequate water supply in the event of a fire.
Our clients receive designs that show the level of detail necessary for competitive bids and economic installations.
Performance specifications can lack detail - RAN provides each client with detailed drawings that address the bid process, desired performance, and life expectancy.

RAN designs fire alarm systems by understanding a building's occupancies, and incorporating the protection philosophy of management.
We customize each design for the building type and use.
For example, our engineers have designed specialty unobtrusive systems for historic properties.
We can also investigate your current fire alarm system to determine if it still meets code requirements.
Our professionals are active in the codes and standards development process and stay abreast of the latest code changes and technology.

RAN offers assistance in establishing fire safety objectives.
We interview decision makers, incorporate the responses into a preliminary set of objectives, and guide our clients in establishing and adopting global objectives and more specific goals for critical areas.
Building aesthetics are an important part of architecture for many clients; however, the designs may contradict the building and fire code requirements.

Commissioning of fire protection systems is meant to validate the intended system design, detail the actual performance, and verify proper installation and operation.
Fire protection commissioning is more than just acceptance testing.
It requires highly developed knowledge of fire protection engineering and a holistic approach to building design.
RAN provides a confirmation that the fire protection systems in a building are functional, satisfy operational needs, and that the systems are complaint with code and local laws.
