OneFish Engineering, LLC, is a specialized company that works to help improve how rivers are managed in the Mountain West region. Rivers today are under ever increasing pressure, and the need for water can compete with the goal of improving the health of the river. Many groups have a stake in this debate: government agencies, water managers, irrigation companies, and natural resource professionals.
Each of these groups has their own perspective, and their own very valid concerns. OneFish understands the multiple perspectives of the groups that will be involved in any given project. We are dedicated to serving our client's needs, and to designing projects that meet the concerns of all stakeholders. We focus on the fields of Fish Passage, Fish Screening, and Hydrology, and have extensive experience far beyond more general engineering firms.
This experience provides better solutions, in a shorter time, and for less money. Feel free to Contact us to learn more about how OneFish can help.

Fish passage is focused on allowing fish to move upstream past barriers in the river, most commonly dams or diversion structures.
There are many methods and techniques to providing upstream fish passage; the choice of the best technique requires a detailed understanding of the needs of the individual project and the strengths and weakness of each available method.
OneFish understands the swimming capabilities of a wide range of fish species, how to model the specific site hydraulics, and regularly works with state and federal wildlife managers to determine passage priorities and appropriate design criteria.

The accurate and reliable measurement of water is more complex than most people appreciate.
To achieve the best results requires an array of sophisticated equipment, and the expertise to select and use the appropriate equipment for any given project.
OneFish owns or has access to the most state of the art hydrology equipment on the market.
We are intimately familiar with its design and operation.
We perform a wide range of studies, and we tailor each study to the specific needs of the client.

The East Fork of the Encampment River joins the Encampment River about 12 miles south of the the town of Encampment, Wyoming and just north of the Colorado - Wyoming border.
The Encampment River system supports a vibrant and popular fishery.
A measurement weir just above the confluence of the two rivers acted as a barrier to upstream fish passage, and was no longer needed for flow monitoring.
OneFish provided plans for removal of the dam and restoration of the adjacent stream, and oversaw the demolition and restoration process.

Poose Creek is a tributary of the Williams Fork River in Northern Colorado, just north of the Flat Tops Wilderness near the town of Yampa.
Poose Creek supports a strong population of native cutthroat trout that is of significant conservation interest to a variety of natural resource agencies and non-profit organizations.
OneFish designed and oversaw construction of a fish ladder to provide upstream passage through a concrete culvert underneath a forest service road.
2015 study showed 100% of the cutthroat trout that reached the culvert successfully traveled upstream through the ladder.
